El nombre de Chek Lap Kok proviene de la isla donde está asentado el aeropuerto, aunque en realidad es la unión de Lam Chau y la antigua Chek Lap Kok que se encontraban pegadas a Lantau, la mayor isla de Hong Kong.
Nada más entrar en la terminal de Chek Lap Kok podemos ver este aeroplano, homenaje a los primeros avidores.
