Sobre la base del exitoso UH-1 "Huey", el helicóptero de ataque Sea Cobra fue desarrollado en tan sólo seis meses, haciendo su debut en combate durante la Guerra de Vietnam (1964-1975). El Sea Cobra utiliza el mismo motor, transmisión y sistema de rotor que el Huey, pero con un fuselaje rediseñado y más aerodinámico. Los asientos en tandem sitúan al piloto detrás y encima del artillero. Situado en una “barbilla/torreta” montada bajo el artillero, el “mini-gun” de tres cañones era devastador cuando se utilizaba contra objetivos en tierra. La variante de la Infantería de Marina de EEUU tenía dos motores y estaba equipado con armas más grandes y potentes que los Sea Cobra del ejército de EE.UU. El AH-1 fue el último helicóptero de la serie "J" en ser retirado, realizándo su último aterrizaje a bordo del portaaviones Intrepid el 29 de Octubre de 1993, pilotado por el Mayor Warren Fox, del grupo 42 de la Marina de EEUU. La Infantería de Marina todavía vuela una variante de este helicóptero, el Super Cobra AH-1W.

Aunque lo parezca, esto no es un SR71 Blackbird, este avión es un Lockheed A-12, un avión diseñado para las operaciones de la CIA del que pocos años después derivó el SR71 Blackbird. Las diferencias entre ambos es que el A-12 era un poco más corto que el SR-71, con mayor techo de servicio que este pero con menor autonomía. Se llegaron a construir 18 aparatos de estos para la CIA y la USAF.
