Westland Gazelle GR1 XX411 was shot down by Argentinian troups in the Falklands War on 21st May 1982, crash-landing into the sea off Port San Carlos. Its pilot Sgt Andy Evans RM was rescued by co-pilot Sgt Eddy Candlish RM but died of gunshot wounds 20 minutes later.
XX411 was recovered in October 1982 and used for BDR (battle damage repair training) before being bought by members of Aeroventure / South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum as a future restoration project.

La parte del león (212 en total) de los 282 Gazelles construidos por Westland para la Fuerzas Armadas Británicas se la llevó el Army Air Corps con una versión conocida como SA 341B para Aérospatiale. Originalmente desarmados, muchos AH.1 recibieron lanzacohetes durante la Guerra de las Falklands en 1982, y unos 70 llevaron el visor GEC-Ferranti AF532, entre ellos el XZ640/T (c/n 1691) que aparece en la foto. Según mis noticias, sigue en servicio con el Air Corps (KR64/Nikon Coolscan V)
